President Steven DormanGeorgia College President Dr. Steve Dorman gave his first State of the University address to nearly 900 students, faculty and staff on Jan. 11 in Russell Auditorium.
He shared information he received from his “listening tour” during his first 100 days as president.
Dr. Dorman then outlined his priorities for the future of the university.
The president highlighted several points during his speech.
Budget: President Dorman believes the university must carefully analyze its current resource structure to plan for a successful financial future. This analysis includes program reviews of all departments, increased philanthropy and reviews of instructional delivery methods.
Diversity/Inclusion: The president plans to enhance the initiative regarding diversity in the university community. This includes the implementation of the Georgia College Legacy Fund, which will focus on recruiting and enrolling students from first generation college families.
Technology: The university’s technology infrastructure will be examined to continue to provide students, faculty and staff with the most up-to-date and useful tools available.
Brand: As part of an effort to improve the university’s reputation and public image, Dr. Dorman charged the University Communications office with spearheading a university-wide branding initiative to clearly define the messaging for the campus.
Economic Development Coordinator: President Dorman announced State Senator Johnny Grant will be hired to fill the newly created position of Community Engagement and Economic Development Director. He will begin on Jan. 22.
New Georgia College Provost: The president announced the hiring of Dr. Kelli Brown as the university’s new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Brown currently serves as the interim dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida. She is expected to arrive on campus in June.
