GCSU Athletics hires Wilson as Assistant Director

The Georgia College & State University Department of Athletics and Director Stan Aldridge have announced the hire of Jimmy Wilson as Assistant Director of Athletics and head golf coach.

Already a part-time member of the GCSU Athletic Department as head golf coach for the past 10 years, Wilson adds the assistant director title and full time status, covering the areas of budgeting, fiscal development, community relations and promotions for the Bobcats.

"It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time," Wilson said of joining the department full-time. "I graduated from GCSU and golfed here, having excellent mentors and working for great people like Dr. Aldridge. It's something that’s really exciting to me."

"We are very proud to have Jimmy Wilson join our staff on a full-time basis," Aldridge said. "He has already been an integral part of our program as our golf coach. His respect in the community, his professional experience, and his relationship with our staff and with our athletes are definite assets in adapting to the position. Jimmy has already established tremendous respect throughout the Peach Belt Conference, at the regional level, and throughout the nation. I am convinced that Georgia College and the Department of Athletics will benefit from his hiring."

Under his guidance, the GCSU men's golf program has made nine-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He added a 2000 Peach Belt Conference Title and Coach of the Year honors that season as well.

Wilson graduated from GCSU in 1986 with a degree in municipal recreation, and he has served as the Director of Golf at the Little Fishing Creek Golf Course in Milledgeville since 1988. He is also a certified Professional Golf Association teaching professional.

"Having worked with the athletic department for some time now, I think I understand the mission and vision of Bobcat athletics," Wilson added. "My experiences as manager at the course have helped me build relationships with many members of the community, and I hope the trust I’ve built here will help us grow. I hope to continue to achieve our goals of educating and graduating student-athletes."

Wilson will move to the offices in the Centennial Center with an official start date of April 16.
