Georgia College student enters Facebook design contest
“Like” Georgia College student and artist Jose Ibarra’s logo.
Why? His artwork encourages civic change through the ¡ORALE! 10/Georgia Latino Vote 2012 campaign.
The sophomore and fine arts major recently entered the campaign’s T-shirt logo design contest on Facebook. He needs your vote.
Jose Ibarra“I wanted to represent my people who are oftentimes underrepresented,” said Ibarra. “This art contest gives us a voice, even if that voice is silent.”
Ibarra’s logo design features a sketch of classmate Isabel Barajas. She is a mother, college student and Gates Millennium Scholar.
“Isabel and her son represent our future,” Ibarra said. “The minority vote is crucial so that our future continues to have representation artistically, politically and academically.”
The ¡ORALE! 10 campaign is a statewide initiative to encourage pro-immigrant communities to engage in the electoral process.
Ibarra is one of 11 contestants entered in the Facebook competition.
The campaign helps find eligible voters and register those voters in an effort to create better policies concerning Latino issues.
The last time to vote online is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.
First-, second- and third-place winners will receive notification by Friday, Feb. 24. First place wins an iPad 2.
“Winning would be nice,” said Ibarra, “but I’m more concerned about people reflecting on my image and its significance for Latino communities in Georgia.”
